Collective Wednesdays @Citizen Smith’s /// and today’s post : The art of persistence and love sharing from the tour diaries of Aerial Stereo

We aimlessly wandered the streets of Haight in search of the american dream.  ”This place is a grave yard” we thought.  Something str8 from the back roads of old Bodie.  Not a musician in sight, no artists for miles.  Only passers by.  We wondered if they knew why they came here to sight see.  Maybe they came for the shopping.

There we were, standing right smack dab in the middle of what used to be the mecca, the main nerve of free thought, total self expression and the most vibingly good tunes of all time.  And there was not a smile to be seen, not a note to be heard and there was no one to write the words.  So we chased the time and we remembered the old days.

“History is hard to know, because of all the hired bullshit, but even without being sure of ‘history’ it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time—and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened . . . There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda . . . You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning . . . And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail.”

We decided we had to bless Haight with our love so we sang to the streets the way we sang to the river outside of Santa Rosa.  Then we turned to the gloomy fog people wandering as we were through these ruins of Haight and we sang for them as well.  At first they refused to even allow a note to be plucked on the 6 string, but after we begged and begged and begged and humbly chased them down the sidewalk they finally gave it a chance and in this video we can actually see the moment they surrender and cut loose a little smile.

Sometimes we all  need to just take a step back, and remember  why.

Pan America gets the Sunset Strip Music festival started right!

When we arrived to the Sunset Strip Music Festival last thursday afternoon with every intention of “bringing the rock” (as Christian would say). The vibe was that of a ghost town. The Strip is dying, new pavement and less trees, it is a bare wasteland. We were performing at THE CAT CLUB just 2 buildings west of the whiskey. We could count maybe 50 people on either side of the street. There was just no foot traffic at all. What happened to the old crazy Hollywood we knew and loved. The Freak Kingdom is teetering on the brink of becoming Sherman Oaks. –and it hurts to concieve such notions.
We arrive at the Cat Club only to be bombarded by the psychotic sound waves from a pissed off and very very passionate door woman. Her name we cannot recall but, her rant is something we needed now more than ever and without a doubt, unforgettable. She went on and on with pure intensity, “the bands today are all so lazy, you kids think that because you have the internet and your cell phones that you can just text your friends the day of a show and hope a few show up. Or send them a facebook invite and pray for a click yes. Its disgraceful, I have been booking bands in this town since before you kids were born, and back then if you were a nobody you still brought 500 people to a show, and how did you do it??? Promotion!!!!!! going to the venue where you are playing 2 months in advance and as often as possible on the nights and days leading up to the show, hanging band posters, handing out cd’s to everyone, having real conscious conversations with passing concert go’ers. In the old days, the bands would earn their fans, today you guys arent doing jack shit and that is why this strip is empty, that is why the sunset strip music festival night one is a ghost town, no one cares enough to work for it, What would you do to live your dream? What would you sacrifice? How much does it really mean to you? Would you scrub toilets as a custodian to pay for the bands cd’s or other needs?” The sad truth “she told us, “is that bands today are just to lazy. they dont care about doing all the leg work. That is why they face the travesty of pay to play. But they deserve it and will until they can prove that they are willing to do this and do it right”
. . . we were stunned, She hit us like a brick out of no where and we are very thankful for such and awe inspiring dose of reality.
